DESCRIPTION:FRAUENSTIMMEN presents: TRIBUTE TO JAY CLAYTON (1941–2023) | Annette Giesriegl (vocal\, electronics); Jasna Jovicevic (saxophones\, bass clarinet\, flute); Elisabeth Harnik (piano\, objects) | In this concert\, ANJALI combines compositions by Jay Clayton\, US-American vocalist between jazz and new music\, with their own “real-time” trio improvisations. Jay Clayton (1941-2023) was a pioneer of contemporary jazz\, particularly through her experimental vocal techniques\, and has been a recurring presence in Austria since the 1990s\, whether as a guest professor at the Jazzinstitut Graz or with her projects such as the “Vocal Summit” and other numerous concert activities. Clayton was one of the first singers to incorporate poetry and electronics into her performances. Her compositions are characterized by thematic guidelines and structured improvisation instructions that open up great scope for interpretation. With this program\, ANJALI commemorates this great artist and combines her inspiring compositions with ad hoc improvisations.
